HACKNEY, John. (Dubuque, IA, Feb. 25, 1928--Dubuque, IA, Jan. 22, 2016). The son of Hugh and Rose (Toll) Hackney, John graduated from DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL and served in the United States Navy during WORLD WAR II. On April 19, 1953, he married Marion Jorstad in Illinois. She preceded him in death on August 25, 2003.

John and his father, Hugh, owned and operated HACKNEY'S WELDING SHOP in Dubuque. At the beginning of the 1970s, John became a welding instructor at North East Iowa Community College until his retirement. It was then that he served on the foundation board.

John was past president of the Dubuque Bowling and State Bowling Association as well as the Izaak Walton League. He volunteered for many years at Meals-on-Wheels.
