MYERS, Dorrance Dixon. (Dubuque Co, IA, Nov. 3, 1841-Apr. 16, 1917). Manufacturer of tobacco products. The firm of Myers, Tice and Company was the first manufacturer of chewing, fine cut, and smoking tobacco in Dubuque. In 1867 Myers established and served as president of the Dubuque Tobacco Works, later reorganized as the Myers-Cox Company, a wholesale tobacco business.
Myers served as chairman of the board of the Dubuque High Bridge Company, trustee of the MOUNT OLIVET CEMETERY Association, and director of the Key City Gas Company and the Julien House Hotel Company. He was president of the board of education and chairperson of the Dubuque County Democratic Central Committee.
