Broell, John C. (Innsbruck, Austria, Mar. 9, 1885--Chicago, IL, July 19, 1906). Educated in the schools of his hometown, Broell, at the age of thirteen, attended the Vienna, Austria School of Arts. In 1894 he attended the School of Arts in Mannheim, Bavaria and then art schools in Berlin receiving several diplomas.
Emigrating to the United States in 1896, Broell came to Dubuque where he worked as a fresco painter for a Mr. Brielmeyer, a leading local church decorator, and then as an artist for the DUBUQUE ALTAR MANUFACTURING COMPANY.
