Altman organized and promoted the Eastern Iowa Electric Company for many years before selling it. One of the owners of the Dubuque Water Works when it was purchased by the city, Altman was also involved in the construction of the [[SECURITY BUILDING]]. Altman served as president of the [[UNION ELECTRIC COMPANY]] before it became the Dubuque Electric Company and was one of the first presidents of the [[DUBUQUE CLUB]]. He also served as secretary and treasurer of the [[D. C. GLASSER TOBACCO CO.]] when it was organized. ALTMAN, Franc W. (Bellevue, IA, July 22,1860--Dubuque, IA, Nov. 20, 1924). Educated in Dubuque schools, Altman began his business career working two years for the DIAMOND JO LINE. In 1875 he began working for PETER KIENE AND SON where he remained.
