E. P. SMITH ELECTRICAL CONTRACT COMPANY. In 1910 the E. P. Smith Electrical Contract Company was one of the largest electrical contracting and supply businesses in the state. Opened in 1903, the business was started by E. P. Smith who began working in the electrical business with the Allen & Sweeney Electric Light and Power Company in the 1890s.
The company locally represented many national companies including Emerson Fan and Power Motors and Western Electric Company's entire line of "Hawthorne" motors and supplies including the Western Electric Inter-Phones, telephones for private use.

The 1909 Dubuque City Directory through the 1941 Dubuque City Directory gave this business address as 414 Main.
