ELLIS, Merwyn R. (Dubuque, IA, July 8, 1924--Dubuque, IA, Sept. 14, 2006) The son of Glenn V. and Cecelia M. (Pauly) Ellis, Merwyn graduated from [[DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL]] in 1942. On June 18, 1946, he married Bette J. Paisley at [[HOLY GHOST CATHOLIC CHURCH]].

He started his appliance service career as service manager at Montgomery Ward in the 1950S. He founded Ellis House Service which specialized in appliance repair and parts for major appliances. Merwyn and his sons Bob and Bill opened Appliances Unlimited in 1972. In November 1979 both businesses were combined under the name of Ellis Appliance & Service Company, Inc.

Merwyn was a Boy Scout leader for over 40 years and proud that he had over 80 Eagle scouts in that time period. He received two scouting awards for service, the Silver Beaver and the St. George Awards. He was also a Master Gardener and did volunteer work for the Iowa State extension office. He was a lifetime 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council 510 and a member of the local musician union. He played saxophone with dance bands in Dubuque with many dances at the [[MELODY MILL]].
