BUTT BROTHERS. Established in 1852 by John Butt, Sr., the company manufactured wagons and a general stock of light-running vehicles. When the company founder died in 1873, he was succeeded by his sons--John, Ernest, William and Helmuth Butt.
In 1876 it was announced that the company would construct a new wagon factory on Iowa street next to the CONNOLLY CARRIAGE MANUFACTORY. (1) The three-story brick building was constructed at a cost of $3,500. The company employed seven workmen earning a weekly payroll of $100. The annual income of the company in 1880 was $8,000.
