DERSCH, Francis H. (Reading PA, Jan. 31, 1851--Dubuque, IA, Aug. 28, 1937). Dersch, a foreman of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul railroad shops in Dubuque, founded the Mutual Relief Society of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Shops.  Beginning in 1883 with seventy-five members, the organization by 1910 had grown to 650 members.  Each person paid twenty-five cents dues per week and received four dollars per week during illness and seventy-five dollars for funeral expenses.  Dersch has also been credited with inventing, but never patenting, many tools used in shops across the country.
