STEVE'S ACE HARDWARE. According to a published story, Steve Selchert discovered in 1986 that a local hardware store was going bankrupt when he could not find nails on the shelf. Purchasing the business at 1670 Kennedy Road, he began Steve's Ace Hardware.
The first location later became the site of HOSPICE OF DUBUQUE when Selchert opened a new store at 3350 John F. Kennedy Road. For several years, he also owned a hardware store on Central Avenue, but chose instead to open a new store at 200 South Locust.
