PRENDERGAST MOTORS INC. Involved in the sale and service of Studebaker automobiles, Prendergast Motors was started in 1936 as Eastern Iowa Motors by J. J. Prendergast. It was located at 880 Iowa Street for ten years. The business relocated to 129 South Locust in June 1946.

Growth of the business led Jerome G. Prendergast, a teacher of French at the New Trier School in Winnetka, Illinois, to join the business in June 1947. Mel Graf, J. J. Prendergast's son-in-law, joined the firm as service manager after service in WORLD WAR II.

The 1948 Dubuque Classified Business Directory through 1955 Dubuque City Directory listed 129 S. Locust for this dealer of Studebaker products.
