NORTHWEST MEDICAL SOCIETY. Forerunner of the Dubuque County Medical Society, the Northwest Medical Society was founded on January 11, 1853. The eight founding members, including Dr. John FINLEY, met at the CITY HOTEL and invited physicians, surgeons, and apothecaries within Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin to join them if they could provide proof of graduation from an established medical school.
In 1856 the name of the Society was changed to the Dubuque Medical Society and later the present Dubuque County Medical Society.
