KURTZ AND WELDER. Mathias TSCHIRGI returned from St. Paul, Minnesota to Dubuque in 1850 and began a small brewery at 6th and Main. Eventually this brewery was able to produce 100 barrels of beer annually.

He sold the plant to Kurtz and Welder before joining Jacob SCHWIND in building the WESTERN BREWERY.
