BRINKMAN, Herman. (Germany, 1829--Dubuque, IA, 1888). Brinkman came to the United States at the age of fifty and settled for a time in Cleveland where he worked as a cabinet maker. He came to Dubuque two years later and established a cabinet and furniture business on the corner of 9th and Main STREETS.
In 1861 Brinkman opened a pork packing business on 8th between Iowa and Main. He operated this for fifteen years and then opened a grocery at 17th and West Locust.
