F. KEMPF. Existing by 1867, the Kempf Brewery was capitalized on $35,000. With a capacity of thirty-five barrels daily, the company employed thirty-five. Kempf also produced "native wines" although the amount was unknown.

The 1873-74 Dubuque City Directory listed Southern Avenue.
