YATES'S ISLAND. Located opposite LAKE PEOSTA, the island was developed in May 1876 into an entertainment center. The steamer Dorchester was chartered to transport people between the island and shore with the round trip costing ten cents. Boat rides began at 8:00 a.m.
On the island, visitors could purchase ice cream, soda water, sweets, fruit or a complete meal. Entertainment was provided by the Germania Band.
