WILLIAM B. POINSETT--596 WEST 11TH STREET. Poinsett was a nephew of Joel Roberts Poinsett, United States minister to Mexico (1825-1829) and the person who introduced the famous Christmas flower to this country. His wife was an active civic volunteer and president of the DUBUQUE WOMEN'S CLUB. Mrs. Poinsett invited Amelia Earhart, the famous airplane pilot, to Dubuque and entertained her as a guest in the home.

Built in 1851, the vernacular brick house was restored after 1984.
