COMMUNITY BLOCK PARTY. In 2013, the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque wanted to celebrate the organization's 10th anniversary by hosting an event honoring community, nonprofits and philanthropy.
The result was the first Community Block Party. Held in the historic ROSHEK'S DEPARTMENT STORE, the event witnessed eighty nonprofits hosting booths with entertainment provided by the Bell Tower Theater, Dubuque Chorale, and other performers on a central stage. An estimated two thousand visitors attended the event to learn about the nonprofits and vote for their favorites to win grants.
The Block Party won Dubuque Main Street's Best Special Event of 2013 Award. The Foundation decided to make the Party an annual event.
