The company also handled all lines of insurance including accident, automobile, boiler, burglary, credit, elevator liability, fly wheel, hail, health, horse and vehicle, and life among others included in their advertisements.

The business consisted of fire, marine, tornado, accident and life insurance in addition to loaning money and dealing in real estate. They were also agents for ocean steamship companies. The company employed three

The insurance transactions of the company was confined mainly to the city
and vicinity. In loaning money, they covered a territory throughout northern
Iowa. This department of the business was the largest in the city, their transactions amounting to several millions of dollars. Loans were made
on real estate securities, principally farm lands in the interior.

PETER KIENE AND SON. Peter Kiene & Son was founded in 1857 by Mr. Peter Kiene, Sr. His son, Peter, was admitted to partnership in 1876. The 1880 Dubuque City Directory stated that this business, insurance, was to be found at the corner of 7th and Main.

The 1883 through 1904-05 Dubuque City Directory stated that this business was located in the Kiene Building at the corner of 4th and Main.

The 1909 through 1913 Dubuque and Dubuque County Directory stated that this business was located at 406 Main.
