Hyde's parents came to Galena, Illinois in 1850; he spent his boyhood in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Hyde studied architecture and pursued his studies in St. Paul, Minneapolis, Chicago and Boston. Hyde came to Dubuque in January, 1878, and took a leading role in the construction of many homes and businesses. These included the [[JESSE P. FARLEY MANSION]], [[HANCOCK HOUSE-1105 GROVE TERRACE]], [[B. B. RICHARDS-1492 LOCUST]], L. C. Bissell residence, plans for an addition to the Fourth Ward School, and a Victorian triplex at 186 Bluff in Dubuque and the German Evangelical Society church in Ackley. (2) He remained in Dubuque twelve years. (3) He was also the architect who planned a large hotel for the city of Allison in 1879.
