A 1967 graduate of Maquoketa High School, Robert served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the [[VIETNAM WAR]] where he was combat wounded and earned three Purple Hearts, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Marksman Badge. 	Upon receiving an honorable discharge, Bob ~~first~~ worked at Waukesha Motors in Clinton, Iowa, then as a delivery man for Frito Lay, and lastly at the United States Postal Service working in Dubuque and Keystone, Iowa from 1970 until retiring in 2005 as Postmaster. He was a past commander of Chapter 6 DAV, members of the board of directors of the Veterans Freedom Center, We Care Foundation, Give a Lift to a Vet Foundation, and treasurer for the All The Way Home Veterans Conference.		Robert was actively involved with veterans organizations including serving as a founding member of the [[VETERANS' FREEDOM CENTER]] where he was actively involved with Willy's Jeep Donation and Restoration, Dubuque Vietnam Memorial, and Honor Flights.
