Vernon had the vision that developed into [[UNITED CLINICAL LABORATORIES]] of Dubuque. A member of the American Medical Association, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, American Board of Pathology, American Association of Blood Banks, and the Dubuque County Medical Society, Vernon served as president of the Dubuque County Medical Society in 1976. (Waterville, KS-Colorado, Feb. 25, 1978). Dr. Vernon came to Dubuque in 1955 as its first pathologist. His bachelor's, master's, and M. D. degrees had all been received from the University of Iowa. He had previously been the chief of laboratory services at Fort Hood, Texas and taught at Northwestern University Medical School.

			Vernon had the vision that developed into [[UNITED CLINICAL LABORATORIES]] of Dubuque. A member of the American Medical Association, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, American Board of Pathology, American Association of Blood Banks, and the Dubuque County Medical Society, Vernon served as president of the Dubuque County Medical Society in 1976. He was also an instructor at the University of Iowa College of Medicine.

	Locally, Vernon was a member of the Dubuque Human Rights, Plumbing, and Transportation commissions. He served on the Tr-State Health Planning Council and was involved in efforts to fight drug abuse and alcoholism. Vernon was active in P.E.O.P.L.E., an organization devoted to finding an alternative to an elevated freeway into Dubuque.		Locally, Vernon was a member of the Dubuque Human Rights, Plumbing, and Transportation commissions. He served on the Tr-State Health Planning Council and was involved in efforts to fight drug abuse and alcoholism. Vernon was active in P.E.O.P.L.E., an organization devoted to finding an alternative to an elevated freeway into Dubuque.
