	Van Duzee, Alonzo J. (Governeur, NY, Jan. 6, 1834--Dubuque, IA, Nov. 15, 1912). Van Duzee came to Dubuque on April 19, 1850, and clerked in a hardware store owned by his uncle, Franklin V. Goodrich. Van Duzee later moved to Hastings, Minnesota, but returned to Dubuque and served as regimental quartermaster in Company 44 of the Iowa Infantry during the [[CIVIL WAR]]. 	In the fall of 1867, Van Duzee became a partner in the law firm of Shiras, Van Duzee and Henderson. He remained with the firm until August 1882 when [[SHIRAS, Oliver Perry\|Oliver Perry SHIRAS]], the newly appointed judge of the Northern District of Iowa, appointed him court clerk. Van Duzee, the father of [[VAN DUZEE, Kate Keith\|Kate Keith VAN DUZEE]], remained in the position until his death. In the same year, he was an officer of the [[DUBUQUE CATTLE COMPANY]]. (1)		In the fall of 1867, Van Duzee became a partner in the law firm of Shiras, Van Duzee and Henderson.
