The founder of [[TEGELER'S INC.]], member of the Asbury Town Council, and former mayor of the city of Asbury, Tegeler was active in aviation and helped establish the first Dubuque [[AIRPORT]] through the founding of [[DUBUQUE AIRWAYS INC.]] in 1930. HE began business on August 1, 1919 in a converted livery he renamed the Couler Avenue Garage. He renamed the garage when the city changed Couler to Central and then renamed it again several times until 1964 when he incorporated the business as Tegeler's Inc. In 1974 the business covered most of the bloc at 23rd and Central. In that year he turned the company which sold and serviced American Motors, Plymouth, Chrysler and Imperial to his son Ed Jr. and son-in-law Alvin Kloft.
