After four years of serving in the military, Richards established a real estate and insurance business in Galena. This lasted ten years. He helped establish the southern and western boundaries of Wyoming Territory and then returned to Freeport, Illinois. He purchased the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Journal&amp;#039;&amp;#039; and operated it for eight years.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Richards came to Dubuque in 1884 and with [[ROSE, George P. Jr.|George P. ROSE, Jr.]] purchased the jewelry store of [[F. JENKEL]]. He had moved to Chicago shortly before his death.&lt;br /&gt;
