	RHOMBERG, Albin Anton. (Dubuque, IA, Nov. 27, 1901-Dubuque, IA, July 8, 1979). Rhomberg attended St. Mary's Parochial School, [[COLUMBIA COLLEGE]] and Iowa State University before transferring to the college of engineering at Notre Dame University. He graduated maxima cum laude with a degree in civil engineering. He served as the Dubuque County Engineer from 1928 to 1937 and then as the Dubuque City Manager from July 15, 1937 to March 31, 1951 ~~before establishing~~ his own consulting engineering company.		RHOMBERG, Albin Anton. (Dubuque, IA, Nov. 27, 1901--Dubuque, IA, July 8, 1979). Rhomberg attended St. Mary's Parochial School, [[COLUMBIA COLLEGE]] and Iowa State University before transferring to the college of engineering at Notre Dame University. (1) He graduated maxima cum laude with a degree in civil engineering having the highest general average ever attained by a student in the College of Engineering. In his last year at Notre Dame, he was an instructor of mathematics and upon graduation was offered faculty membership as a professor of mathematics. (2)

			Before returning to Dubuque, Rhomberg worked in many cities including Chicago, Detroit, and Miami. Among his work was a contracting partnership in building construction in Miami; structural drafting and valuation map work with the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad Company; structural work on the Packard Motor Company power plant in Detroit, Michigan; and sales engineer on structural products with the Moellering Supply Company of Fort Wayne, Indiana. (3)

			He served as the Dubuque County Engineer from 1928 to 1937 and then as the Dubuque City Manager from July 15, 1937 to March 31, 1951. In becoming city manager in Dubuque, Rhomberg became the fifth city manager of the city and the first native Dubuquer to hold the position. (4) He replaced Roger M. Evans who resigned. Rhomberg was noted for holding down city spending and taxes.

			Upon retiring, Rhomberg established his own consulting engineering company.

	Before returning to Dubuque, Rhomberg worked in many cities including Chicago, Detroit, and Miami. In becoming city manager in Dubuque, Rhomberg became the first native Dubuquer to hold the position. He was noted for holding down city spending and taxes.
