	PLAISTER, Joseph D. (Banwell, England, Mar. 26, 1848--Dubuque, IA, Sept. 14, 1926). At the age of one, Plaister traveled with his parents to Dyersville. Beginning his career, he moved to Dubuque at the age of fourteen and entered the business of Smith & Plaister, insurance. He joined the firm of [[JOHN BELL AND COMPANY]] in 1871 and remained with its successor [[RIDER-WALLIS DRY GOODS COMPANY]].		PLAISTER, Joseph D. (Banwell, England, Mar. 26, 1848--Dubuque, IA, Sept. 14, 1926). At the age of one, Plaister traveled with his parents to Dyersville. Beginning his career, he moved to Dubuque at the age of fourteen and entered the business of Smith & Plaister, insurance. He joined the firm of [[JOHN BELL AND COMPANY]] in 1871 and remained with its successor [[RIDER-WALLIS DRY GOODS COMPANY]].

	Plaister held many offices in St. Luke's Methodist Episcopal Church, later [[ST. ~~LUKES~~ UNITED METHODIST CHURCH]]. He was also honored as being the "father of the Y. M. C. A." Through his efforts, a group of young men in the Old Main Methodist Church, became the first class in that organization.
