	PAST CENSORSHIP. In 1991 an article in the ''Telegraph Herald'' described the current state of censorship in America. The article included the protests and boycotting of the 1988 film "The Last Temptation of Christ" and the subsequent banning of the film in hundreds of movie theaters across the united States. According to the author, it was a world in which people attempted to ban Stephen King's 1988 thrilled "Children of the Corn." Congress in 1911 required grant recipients to sign a pledge not to use federal money to produce works that might be seen as obscene.		PAST CENSORSHIP. Several women's groups in 1951 focused on retailers they considered to be selling obscene materials. Organizers were motivated to take action after charges were dismissed against a Dubuque news dealer who been accused of distributing "indecent" literature. The March 1951 action included the Parent Teachers Association Council, Dubuque Women's Club, and the [[CATHOLIC MOTHERS' STUDY CLUBS]].

			A meeting of representatives from the three groups was to be attended by the a representative of the Dubuque deanery of the National Council of Catholic Women who was expected to enter a protest against obscene literature for her group. A list of obscene publications compiled by three women from material confiscated by police in raids of local newsstands would also be presented at the meeting. (1)
