He was a strong advocate of early childhood education ~~and~~ sought in one of his first addresses to the public to keep the district moving forward on its current path, and to "provide stability and heal some hurt feelings in the district." Following voter rejection of higher taxes to purchase computers and other classroom needs, the district in 1995 a ten-member panel to inspect the district's financial records and bureaucracy to see where savings could be made.
