New page

INEZ COAL MINES. Owned and operated by former Dubuque residents, the mine was located in Wyoming Territory. Yielding 500 tons of coal daily, the mine developed a vein of coal described as "clean and solid five to six feet in depth." Established in 1893, the owners included Charles H. Meyer, J. S. Meyer, Dominick Rhomberg and Albert Heuchelin.

By July 1894 the owners had established a company town of about forty houses. With an estimated two hundred workmen and their families in the forecast, plans were drawn for more construction. Contracts had been negotiated with the federal government for supplying coal to Fort Robinson, Fort Niabora, and Fort Meade as well as "numerous" contracts for locating electric light and water supply plants throughout Nebraska.
