HARTMAN, John. (Prussia, Mar. 9, 1849-- ). Hartman learned his furniture making trade in Prussia and emigrated to America in 1849. He came to Dubuque in 1850 and worked for [[HERANCOURT, Valentine|Valentine HERANCOURT]] for four years.

He then entered business with Kley & Huber in a factory later occupied by the [[DUBUQUE FURNITURE AND BURIAL CASE COMPANY]]. Hartman was the foreman of the manufacturing department and also a stockholder and director in the company.
