GREGOIRE, Charles H. J.(St. Genevieve Co., MO, June 10, 1821--Dubuque, IA, Nov. 11, 1902). Charles H. J. was the son of [[GREGOIRE, Charles H.|Charles H. GREGOIRE]] was born in 1798 in this country. The father of Charles H. was a native of France and was involved in the French Revolution.<br />

Gregoire H. J. had charge of the first steam ferryboat on the [[MISSISSIPPI RIVER]] at Dubuque after the [[ILLINOIS CENTRAL RAILROAD]] reached Galena. He operated the ferry until 1864 when he sold out to the railroad to manage large real estate holdings in Iowa and two hundred eighty-nine acres of [[MINING]] property in Missouri. <br />
