Glab was the son of [[GLAB, Adam|Adam GLAB]], the founder of the [[GLAB BREWERY]] and one of the first brewmasters of [[DUBUQUE BREWING AND MALTING COMPANY]]. The home and 2-story carriage house was constructed for Glab and his wife, Catherine.

In the 1950s the home was purchased by Art Nagel, a former housing inspector. Nagel converted the second and third floors into apartments. He was said to have had to clean up the third floor during this process from its former use as the scene of cock fights during [[PROHIBITION]].
