	GEHON, Francis. (TN, 1797--Dubuque, IA, Apr. 2, 1849). Gehon came to Dubuque in 1833 and settled in Peru where he operated a store and was also involved with [[MCKNIGHT, Thomas\|Thomas MCKNIGHT]] in a [[LEAD]] smelter.		GEHON, Francis. 	Gehon was active politically and, on March 13, 1836, became a member of the Dubuque County Board of Supervisors. He only served until June 10th of that year when he was appointed a U.S. marshal by the territorial governor. He held that position until 1841. In 1842, Gehon was elected to the Iowa Territorial Legislature. Holding the rank of brigadier general in command of the 2nd Brigade of the Iowa militia, Gehon was offered the command of a company of dragoons in the ~~Mexican War~~ in 1846 but declined for health reasons.		Gehon was active politically and, on March 13, 1836, became a member of the Dubuque County Board of Supervisors. He only served until June 10th of that year when he was appointed a U.S. marshal by the territorial governor. He held that position until 1841.
