Ed and Cathy were blessed with three children and 6 grandchildren.

Catherine attended [[CLARKE UNIVERSITY]] and graduated cum laude from the University of Northern Iowa in 1977 with a BA in political science. In 2001, she received an honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Clarke University.
