The occasion was the payment of debt between Thomas Daykin, "a good Democrat who believed in Cleveland," and John Brunskill, "a pesky Republican who pinned his faith on Harrison." The loser had to wheel the winner in a barrow from Otermits to Daykin's Grove. Tom lost.  The Center Grove band planned "stirring music" including ''Rolling Along'' and the West Dubuque Republican Club acted as an escort. Tom said he would be doing the riding in 1892. (1)
