The first basketball coach at [[WAHLERT CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL]], Colbert led the Golden Eagles from 1959 to 1980 to a record of 345 victories against 137 losses, earning him a .717 winning percentage. Throughout his career the Eagles basketball team made 10 state tournament appearances. In his final season (1979-1980) Wahlert won twenty-five games without a loss and won their first Iowa State basketball championship. At Wahlert, Colbert&amp;#039;s only losing season was 1960-1961 with a 9-11 win/loss record. &lt;br /&gt;

From 1988-1993 Colbert was hired as athletic director and head basketball coach at [[CLARKE COLLEGE]]. (2) During his first season, the team won thirteen games, while in the preceding three seasons they had only won twenty-one.  If not on the basketball court, he enjoyed playing softball on the State Farm team. He achieved numerous awards and gained much respect and recognition all over the state of Iowa. He was inducted into the Iowa Coaches Hall of Fame, Softball Fast Pitch Hall of Fame, and the Basketball Coaching Hall of Fame. (3)&lt;br /&gt;
