Established in 1900, the Clark Roller Awning Company offered more styles of awnings and tents than any other awning manufacturer in the United States. Part of the success was due to the company owning he patents on their own awnings. The company manufactured tents, canopies, canvass hammocks, sacks, and national and foreign flags. The company also sold twine, rope, camp and lawn furniture, campers' and hunters' outfits and cooking utensils.

			Among the unique items marketed by the company was the "Clark Travelingman's Rope Fire Escape." Going beyond its title, the article was installed in colleges, schools and factories and benefited from its simplicity.
