He was a signatory to a December letter from 24 groups and individuals based in Iowa urging President Barack Obama and Iowa's U.S. Congressional delegation to halt efforts to resume drilling in Alaska. The letter cited Shell's difficulties in exploratory drilling in 2012 as reason to cease the practice.
