	Papers to incorporate American Legion Post No. 6 were filed on November 12, 1920. Early in its history, Post #6 contemplated two ~~KIA's~~ from WWI to name the post in their honor. It was finally decided there were too many courageous and worth veterans the Post could be named, and it was added to the constitution/bylaws the Post would never be named for a living veteran. (1) Dubuque first hosted the state convention of the Legion in 1933. The commander of Post #6 in Dubuque at the time was Charles Landon. In 2019 Post 6 was the second largest in Iowa.
